Sister Rebecca Thompson, Minister of prayer and intercession
Someone said that we don't pray for the work of God, prayer is the work of God. This is absolutely true. That prayer by itself is work is proven by t
he fact that most of us would rather do "the work of God" than pray. We forget, however, what someone said, that when we work, we work, but when we pray, God works, and when God works, it's great and sweet!
It's like the old story of a man who had gone shopping with his son. When they got to the counter, there was a candy tin. Noticing the boy was keenly looking at the candies, the clerk told him, "Go ahead and help yourself, son." The boy refused but when the clerk went ahead and offered the boy some, he took them. His father observing all these with curiosity asked him, "how come you had refused to help yourself with the candies and yet when the clerk put his hand in the container and gave them to you you took them?" "Because," replied the boy, "His hand is bigger than mine and if I had gotten them myself I would have gotten way less that what he got for me." Smart answer, isn't it? And isn't prayer like that?
Following the same logic, those who pray and work are smart, aren't they? It's working smart! That's why C.S. Lewis said, "If you give me ten minutes to chop down a tree, "ll spend my first two sharpening the axe." Prayer is sharpening the ax.
A look at the life of Jesus shows that prayer was not only central to his ministry but that it was what He spend most of His time doing - even today it is the only work the scriptures tell us that He is doing, " . . . at the right hand of the Father interceding for us" (Heb. 7:25).
The early church, likewise, knew how important prayer was. Someone said that in Acts chapter two, "they prayed for 10 days, Peter preached for 10 minutes and 3,000 were saved. Unfortunately today churches pray for 10 minutes, preach for 10 days and three people get saved."
The ministry of prayer and intercession is the most important ministry in DFI. That's why we have prayer teleconferencing during the week, kesha every Friday, Sunday morning intercession, and ministry groups prayers. This ministry is currently led by Minister Rebecca Thompson.
